Traditional Iconography and Gilding Workshop
The icon painting and gilding workshop is designed as an introduction to the basic techniques of traditional icon painting. Participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with the process of gilding, the preparation of tempera, and the act of painting an icon itself. Working on a pre-prepared wooden panel, they will learn how to apply gilding with gold leaf using egg white as a binder, how to prepare tempera from natural pigments and egg yolk, and how to paint an icon with this tempera in accordance with canonical rules.
The workshop will be led by Adrijana Lepetic, Mensa Montenegro.
Adrijana is 26 years old and comes from Herceg Novi, a coastal town in Montenegro. She is a second-year student at the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in the conservation and restoration of easel and wall paintings. Prior to enrolling at the faculty, she attended a school of traditional icon painting, where she built a strong foundation in the craft. During her studies, she has further developed her knowledge and skills. Painting has been an integral part of her life for as long as she can remember.
