Design Thinking as a Tool for Nurturing Creative Potential
In a time when future professions are increasingly defined not by specific jobs but by modes of thinking, creative thinking has become one of the key meta-skills. It actively engages and integrates different aspects of human intelligence in solving complex problems.
Drawing on a fragment of my master’s research in the field of Design Thinking in Architecture and Design, this presentation is based on the theoretical foundations of design thinking with its practical application across various creative industries: architecture; design and development of digital products; event design; design and production of promotional and communication concepts.
A special focus is placed on cognitive abilities associated with the design thinking approach, such as empathy, problem redefinition, divergent and convergent thinking, as well as the cognitive flexibility required for iteration and learning through failure.
Lecturer: Jovana Romčević
I am an architect and designer, with over 15 years of experience in the IT industry, working across design and leadership roles.
I am currently completing my Master's thesis in Architecture (expected to receive my MArch by July), focusing on design thinking in architecture and design, exploring how creativity interacts with technological innovations that shape our everyday life.
Throughout my international career and involvement in various mentoring programmes, I have actively supported and mentored young creatives, helping them recognise their potential and navigate career paths in the evolving creative and digital industries. In 2024, I was nominated as a creative leader for the U.S. Department of State Global Women's Mentoring Program in Washington, DC.
As a conference speaker, I frequently addresses topics related to creative potential, design thinking, and opportunities for creatives in today's rapidly changing market.
